Jessica Brown is a lecturer in linguistics (maître-assistante) in the English department at the University of Lausanne. Jessica’s work explores how the search for meaning changes the systems we use to communicate, using insights and tools from formal syntax, digital humanities and cognitive psychology. Before coming to Lausanne, Jessica trained with the psychologist Reinhold Kliegl at the University of Potsdam, as a member of the SFB in language variability and a visiting lecturer in linguistics at the Humboldt University of Berlin. Before that, Jessica did her PhD in linguistics at Cambridge with David Willis.

Jessica’s current research focuses on formal and computational models of changing grammar. She is especially interested in how people adapt to hearing and seeing different grammar, particularly in language learning or multilingual contexts, and welcomes collaborations and student projects on those topics.
